"It's uh, it's nice to meet you too," Adam replied nervously, trying and mostly failing to stop his eyes straying, though he was getting better at it. The miniskirt wasn't helping. Why did she even want him here? He wasn't buying that 'good samaritan' thing.

"So Adam...how did a good-looking boy like yourself end up like that, in an alleyway?" She asked, slightly teasing him a little. Knowing the ind of things that happened in Marisol, she had a pretty good idea what it might have been about.

"W-well, I was kinda strapped for money, so I got in deep with some bad guys, members of the Chings. Now I owe them money, and I don't really have any to get food or clothes," Adam replied, going a bit red at the compliment she paid him.

Lena frowned, and was silent for a while as she tried to think of what they should do. "Well...I'll see if I can convince my partner to allow you to hide out here for awhile, until we figure out what to do..." Lena said, explaining her idea. "In any case, you're too injured to go anywhere, so you're going to have to stay here for a bit."

"Wait, you were being genuine? Oh man, I'm so sorry. I guess you might have saved my life, and I owe you," Adam replied genuinely. He felt embarrassed, after having not only trying to escape his saviour, but also having got his ass kicked. This girl may have been better than he thought originally, though, so he was glad he was wrong, nevermind his pride.

"Don't worry about it, I'm not exactly the easy to trust type myself, so I will be keeping an eye on you while you stay here." She explained to the boy, giving him another wink, before sitting down in a nearby seat.

Adam predictably went a bit red at the wink, tearing himself away and rolling painfully back over onto the bed, figuring he'd be best offering ml resistance. She could have easily hurt him before if she wanted to, anyway. Still, he just knew he was going to make a fool out of himself sooner or later. He couldn't help but wonder what Lena's partner would be like.

Lena smiled as the boy tuned over, mentally chuckling a little before standing up. "Get some rest, I need to do a few things, I'll be back soon." She said.

"Uhm, yeah, I'll actually stay here this time. I kinda owe you, so I'l try make that up to you," Adam replied embarrassedly, rolling back over so he was facing her. It wasn't like he had anywhere to go, and he felt it would just be plain wrong to lie and leave before she let him after all she'd taken the trouble to save him.

"Thank you." Lena said with a smile, before stepping over, and leaning forward. "Here, let me adjust your pillow for you." She said, both of her arms moving to each side, around him, and adjusting his pillow, so he'll be a bit more comfortable.

Lena then stood up straight. "I'll see you later." She said with a wink, before turning around, and walking out of the room, her hips swaying from left to right.

Adam went beet-red, and Lena would see the effect she was having on him. He rolled to the side so she wasn't looking directly down on his face. He did have to admit he was comfortable, though. Maybe staying there would have more perks than just healing up. Despite trying to regain his dignity, he couldn't help but stare as Lena left. He waited until she left to sit up, go to the bathroom and get himself a snack and a drink. He hadn't eaten in almost a day, and he was starving.

SHOT in the Back - Page 17 Empty Re: SHOT in the Back

Myrrh watched the family carefully - it was a really sad thing to see them interacting so normally, and it was sadder that someone would try to disrupt that. He turned away and walked into the TV room. Dominick had told him to get some rest, but both men knew that wasn't happening. Myrrh debated on reading a book or watching something, finally switching the television on to one of the news channels. Might as well study up on what the rest of the town thought of recent events.

Most of it was boring dribble - how horrible, does anyone know anything, we thought gang wars were over but I guess we were wrong (one guy claimed he'd never believed the clans could keep the truce anyway), etc. There was footage of the wreckage. Most of the crowd had cleared up, with the exception of the few who stood around speculating. Myrrh could pick out a couple of ranking de Lucas whose sour expressions made it clear what they thought of the police presence. Cops swarmed the area like confused ants.

Myrrh collapsed unceremoniously on the couch, blinking at his white ceiling. He idly listened to the reporters, but his mind raced with thoughts - mostly unrelated to each other. "I guess the additional company isn't a bad thing," he said to himself. "God knows this place needs it."

...

Carlotta grabbed a cart from the line and steered it into the store, reading the list as she went. Eggs and milk? she thought. It'd been a long time since she'd had any of that. She would probably get some sort of disease related to calcium/protein deficiency when she was older. Meat was also on the list, as was cereal, fruits, and vegetables. Carlotta mentally added ice cream (and an assortment of other treats) to the end of the list. She justified this by thinking Max would like some desserts, but she couldn't fool herself.

She swept through the fresh produce section, throwing in some strange looking fruits and veggies as well along with the common ones. Then she took the isles one by one, referring to the list at times to check that she'd gotten everything, but Carlotta wasn't deterred from buying anything that caught her fancy. After all, the cupboards of Myrrh's house were vacant of household items. Really, his refrigerator resembled that of an isolated military base with the variety in its food storage.

Two-thirds of her way through the store, as she walked by the dairy section, Carlotta figured she should probably get a second cart. The tower she was shoving along was attracting a bunch of odd stares. She was also wondering how she was going to transport her finds to Myrrh's house on foot, and she still had a handful of items left on her grocery list.

"...I don't think I'm good at shopping, am I," she grumbled, perplexed by her dilemma.

"That's a lot of groceries." Caesar said to the girl, having paused as he was passing by. From what she could tell from the girl's physique, and plain old common sense, it didn't look like she was going to be able to carry it all, without a vehicle. "Are you sure you're going to be able to- wait, weren't you the girl who ran into me this morning?"

Some guy was talking to her. Carlotta turned to face him with raised eyebrows. Ugh. Some shady kid in a hood who thought he was cool imitating gangsters. Wait a minute, that sounded familiar. Whatever.

"No, I'm not," Carlotta said shortly, her mind still wrapped around her more immediate problem. "We're not allowed to take the carts with us, are we...?" she muttered. "I knew I should have learned how to shop at an earlier age..."

"Need any help carrying all that?" He asked the girl, understanding her predicament. "Cause that is quite a lot of stuff to carry." He said.

Lena sighed, as she took a seat in her office in the base, working on a device she had been telling Ethan about for the past couple weeks. She was quickly approaching completion, just a bit more, and it'd be done.

"Yeah, thanks," the girl said. "My name's Carlotta." She tactfully neglected to include her surname (of course, she forgot he'd find out as soon as he helped her home). As she spoke, she surveyed the milk and chose the freshest gallon.

Hm, some juice will probably be nice too. And cheese. It's been a while since I've had that. Oh, and what's that? It's so weird. And the mascot looks ridiculous,
she thought, scrutinizing the shelves.

"De Luca?" Caesar asked. In the past year he had been in Marisol, he had learn a great deal about the big players of both families, from what he heard, Carlotta was simply just a figure head, and didn't really do much. She wasn't a threat, but it sure was a coincidence that he ran into her like this. He always figured that if he ever met her, it'd be when he was doing business with the De Lucas, not while shopping.

"Fear me," Carlotta replied simply. She made a gun with her fingers (ah, what she would have given for the feeling of her orange water gun under her fingers again...) and pretended to shoot him. "Anyway, I'm not done shopping yet. So let's finish up, I'll pay for this, and we'll get going." She didn't wait for him, pushing the cart forward with some difficulty.

Max wrapped his arm's around Karl's neck. "Ooh ooh ahh ahh!" He laughed, trying to swing while still clinging to the man. "I wanna banana! Ooh ooh ahh ahh!"

Andrea let out a laugh herself at the little display. Just as long as Maxie didn't decide to start throwing feces around like a primate theyd be good.

Carlotta checked the list. She was mildly amused to see that Karl had included not only food items but home essentials as well. Now she was through with the food isles and beginning to emerge into the isles that sold other things, like napkins and towels.

"Hm, we have some of these already - like dish detergent - but he's got us on other stuff," she mused. "Uh, we need some paper and plastic utensils. I think. Throw in some cups too. And then we'll reach the frozen foods, and why not go wild with that?"

She did some rearranging in her cart to make room for the additional products. When they were finally, finally done, Carlotta paid for her groceries (the look on the cashier's face was absolutely priceless), coming to a total of $428.42. The girl paid in cash, which she withdrew from somewhere under her shirt. Exiting the store, Carlotta eyed the newly bagged merchandise with a careful eye.

"Now's when you tell me what you're called too," she said offhandedly, beginning to unload the cart.

"Name is Caesar, nice to meet you." He said, carefully picking up the majority of the bags, with only a little difficulty. If there is one thing you could tell from this, is that Caesar was a lot stronger than he appeared. "Should we get going?"

"Let's."

Carlotta smiled to herself as she walked ahead to lead the way. Score. Random guy offers to help her and does most of the heavy-lifting, plus she didn't even have to bribe him or anything. What a sucker.

"We'll be going through heavy de Luca territory," she said as they walked. "Don't be surprised if you see some weird people hanging around. They're attracted like flies to catastrophes like today. I won't require you to close your eyes or anything crazy like that. Just keep in mind that if some wack points a gun at you, don't freak out. It's normal."

"Um...like...life?" Carlotta said, not really understanding his jibe. "I don't know. Because of who I am, I wouldn't say I had a normal upbringing. It's not as bad as you think it is, I promise. Uncle is really nice, and even though there are a lot of people who say bad things about you, there's always someone there to get your back. It's like..." She fumbled for an analogy. "Like having a family," she continued. She wasn't sure what she was saying, but as the words left her mouth, she felt confident they were a little bit true. Carlotta looked ahead, spotting the de Luca walls. "I'm lucky," she said, fondness evident in her tone. "I grew up with all the benefits of being a de Luca - protection, money, and power - but none of the drawbacks. I didn't learn to fight; I've risked my life, yes, but that was my own idiocy. Believe it or not, the chains of the de Luca clan have made me one of the freest people in Marisol."
