Re: Mages of the Tricore
Von assured Kleis how he was going to fix the Clarion, but the presented her with a question of his own. "How are you going to use it once it's fixed? Only its original owner can use a Mage item's power to its fullest."
Kleis smirked and replied, "I'll find a way." She nodded to Emirayha and took her leave.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Von continued to fix the Clarion, but questioned how Kleis would use it. She gave a vague, mysterious answer, and went on her way. There was a moment of silence.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Von sighed and began searching through the drawers of the desk. He appeared to be too preoccupied with fixing the Clarion to talk to Emirayha now.
Kleis stayed close to the wall as she walked, as she was still a bit wobbly. She got over it once she was outside and she headed back into the forest, inspecting the damage once again. Wherever she walked, insects appeared to follow her. She could call them back so they can pollinate the plant life, but the soil was unsuitable for growth.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Since there appeared to be nothing else to do, Emirayha decided to leave as well, shortly after Kleis. She went on a stroll in the forest, it's numerous decaying lifeforms still as visible as ever.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis eventually made her way to the Willow. The tree appeared to bow to her as she crossed the little moat surrounding it and the graveyard and she bowed in return. She treaded carefully on the soft soil; even with the graves hidden, she knew where all of them were and easily avoided them. She stood at the base of the tree and waited.
Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis stood at the base of a large tree while Emirayha watched from the background. Could this be what she was talking about?

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis fell down to her knees and appeared to pray. The ground around the Willow began to pulse slightly, as if the tree was a beating heart. Emirayha may have felt a little change in the wind, but it wasn't large enough to make a noticeable difference.
After a while, Kleis stood back up and the pulsing stopped. She turned to face Emirayha and grinned. "Let's go fight some Reapers."

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Emirayha thought she saw Kleis pray but was too distracted and tired to really make out anything. But once Kleis said, let's go fight some Reapers, Emirayha was ready to go and responded with a sly smirk and a nod.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis, satisfied with Emirayha's answer, led her through the maze of the forest. As they neared the factory, she said, "It's only a bit past noon and yet there's an awful lot of Reapers," even though they had yet to encounter one. "Can you hear them?"
The forest was silent, except for the occasional buzzing of bugs.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
They took off once more to the factory, which Kleis said was full of reapers. Emirayha listened closely for a bit, and after a while she heard some small, odd sounds. "I think I do hear them." she said.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis cupped a hand to her ear and began to follow the noise. The howling of wind between the bare tree branches became louder and higher-pitched. Trampled mounds and fallen hives dotted the area. "Hey, Emirayha. You wanna know what I've learned from my studies?"
Re: Mages of the Tricore
"What would that be?" Emirayha asked, with an intuition that something unpleasant and dangerous was imminent.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
"Well, you know the Esse that we get from Reapers?" Kleis asked, stilling following the sound. "We thought that it was just the life force of everything, but that's not really the case. It's more like...emotional energy, I guess."
She sighed and rested her hands behind her neck. "Well, not really. It's kinda hard to explain, really." She stopped and turned to Emirayha, showing the Obsidian Mage her dragonfly charm. "There's two types of Esse, good and bad. Things that are loved and cherished are filled with lots of good Esse, so young children have lots of it." She wrapped her hand around the charm. "So when a child loves an item so much that it's overflowing with good Esse, then a Mage is created."

Re: Mages of the Tricore
"Oh really? Interesting......." Emirayha muttered. "So are reapers born from incredibly hated things?"

"Well, not necessarily. Things that are neglecting can turn into Reapers as well," Kleis said as she continued walking. "But the scary part is, Reapers can be born from anything, while Mages need a human to happen."
A strange whistling noise could be heard, followed by heavy breathing. Kleis brought a finger to her lips and quickly but quietly rushed towards the source.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
"Well, c'est la--" Emirayha stopped when she saw Kleis put her finger on her lips and heard the heavy breathing. They definitely were not alone.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
As they approached the source, the heavy breathing slowly changed into the rustling of leaves. They eventually reached a clearing with a single pine tree in the center. But, unlike most of the other trees in the forest, the pine's needles covered its branches like a coat. It stayed rooted in place, but it appeared to rise and lower as if it was breathing.
"Careful. It's a Treeguard," Kleis whispered. "They're very powerful. Don't transform yet, but be ready." She carefully made her way to the sleeping Treeguard, being careful not to trample any sticks or kick up too much dirt.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
There was no reaper, but a tree. The tree was alive. And it wasn't afraid to deal with anything in its way. The two girls began ambling up slowly to the tree, cautious as ever. Leaves and twigs seemed to get caught on Emirayha's clothing, but weren't that noticeable.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Kleis gave Emirayha a slight nod before grabbing her charm and transforming. Aiming at the exposed bark near the base of the tree, she sliced it with her charm sword before quickly backing off, leaving a huge scar on the tree. The Treeguard sprung to life and its roots began to rise out of the ground, trying to grab its attackers. It growled and raised its branches, revealing its long, thin arms and its face, which appeared to be an animated carving on the bark.
Kleis began to hover a few feet above the ground, just out of the Treeguard's range. She dashed quickly towards it, hoping to get a few hits before backing off again.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
After Kleis, Emirayha transformed, and they both struck the base of the tree. As it came to life, Emirayha levitated off the ground, struggling to dodge the ravenous roots.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
"Just hit the same spot over and over again," Kleis shouted to Emirayha. She dashed towards the Treeguard to strike again, moving the sword as if she was chopping the tree down. A large, deep scar began to form on the Treeguard, getting deeper and deeper the more Kleis chopped. It growled at her and scratched at her face, grazing her cheek and her shoulder. She quickly hopped out of the Treeguard's range and wiped her face. The scratches began to slowly heal.
Re: Mages of the Tricore
As Kleis took a break to let her scratches heal, Emirayha took a turn, gradually wearing the tree down.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
The Treeguard spun around quickly and swung his arms at Emirayha with enough force to knock her back a couple of feet. It began to wobble a bit as it moved around.
Kleis lunged at it again, even though her shoulder was still bleeding an awful lot. Seeing it's wobble, she began to circle around the tree instead of attacking. The section of the trunk that was damaged began to twist and break.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
Emirayha was hit despite her efforts to dodge the tree, but she managed to brush it off. Kleis began to circle around the tree as it began to wobble to speed up its destruction.
Emirayha flew in a different path in the opposite direction. The tree seemed to be getting dizzy, not knowing who to aim for.

Re: Mages of the Tricore
The Treeguard began to spin around rapidly as a last resort, spreading its arms and knocking back the two Mages. The trunk twisted and finally snapped, killing the Treeguard. Kleis watched as the tree withered away, leaving the earth around it dry and barren. "Von needs to hurry up fixing the Clarion. I might have to call in some guys from the beach to help us up here."
