Kira sat up, the bush they were hiding under disappearing. "Melaney! Are you okay?!"

"Hey, I see one!" Josh yelled as they got closer. Sure enough, there was a small girl wandering around outside, looking very scared.

Melaney just curled into a ball crying, shivering as a deep headache set in.

"Boring," Jamie said. Bored looking.

Joey nodded, and they begun to descend, landing in an area nearby, but not too close.

Kira bit her lip, wrapping the blanket around Melaney's shoulders, and standing up. Vines grew out of the ground, lifting the crying woman onto Kira's back. She started heading back towards the treehouse with Melaney, humming quietly to try and calm her.

Melaney just sat there dazed and crying, staring off into space. Her eyes were empty and sad, as if trying to zone out a really mean speech.

Kira continued to sing quietly, a vine taking the two of them up to the treehouse. Kira set Melaney down on her bed, getting a glass and filling it up with drinking water from a bucket on the floor. She held it out to the crying woman, kneeling down to her level.

Melaney didn't even seem to register where she was, let alone the glass of water. A shadow serpent, eyes gleaming with life and what appeared to be sadness snaked it's way up and drank all the water.

Kira frowned slightly at the serpent. "The water is for Melaney," she told it, turning to go get more.

The serpent head tilted. "I am Melaney."

Kira blinked, a confused look crossing her face. "You're going to have to explain this to me..."

"I'm Melaney? I'm her shadow...." the serpent hissed.

"But then who's Melaney?" Kira blinked, gesturing to Melaney herself, not the serpent. "I d-don't understand this at all, really..."

The serpent tilted it's head to the other side. "She is," it hisses, and more serpents rose up, "We all are Melaney."

Kira stumbled back in surprise, not really prepared for all the snakes. "Can you...talk to her sisters? The ones in her head? Tell them not to pick on her anymore..."

The serpent shook it's head. "The voicessssss are Melaney too. Shhhhhe controlsssssss ussssss when shhhhhhhe needs sssssso we can't do anything."

Kira shook her head, shaking slightly. "W-Well, I feel more c-comfortable around th-the real Melaney, s-so can she come back n-now? I-I'd like to talk t-to her..."

the serpent seemed to frown, despite the lack of coherent mouth. "It'sssssss not up to usssssss..."

"H-How do I make her c-come back out?" Kira asked, biting her lip.

The serpent just shook it's head as the others disappeared. "You don't."

"There has to be some way! How do I know i-if you're not lying to me! I w-want to talk to the real Melaney!" Kira ordered, crossing her arms.

The serpent gave Kira an exasperated look before fading away into wisps.

Kira bit her lip, cautiously approaching Melaney again.

Melaney seemed to be staring of into space, murmuring inaudible and incoherent words. Her body was soaked with sweat and her face laced with fear and pain.
