"Nothing more than a traveler," Melaney stated calmly, almost dangerously.

"You've been following us, though," Tom stated, his tone his usual calm.

"Indeed I have," she answered, "do you have a problem with this?"

"Not sure. Why were you following us? And perhaps still are?" Tom asked, raising an eyebrow.

Kira smiled faintly, before looking around, her gaze falling to the window. "Ah, can you please help me weed the garden today? I've been avoiding it," she asked. Sure, she could weed it with her Flow, but she needed an excuse to get Luke away from the window.

Heidi raised an eyebrow. She hadn't noticed anyone following them. "Yeah. It's kind of weird, so if you could just fuck off, that'd be dandy."

Erika wanted to go after the girl, but felt herself rooted to the spot in anger. Is this how it is? I try to keep everyone safe but when I want some of my own time I suddenly become the bad guy?

"I remember you." Nathan mused. "You used to hang around with Paul back in the Acer days."

Luke kept his smile-y poker face on. He knew she could weed it with her Flow. Why did she want his help? It wasn't laziness, he knew Kira well enough to know that.

"Sure," he replied, standing up.

"You," she pointed at Nathan, "reek of darkness, or so my shadow tells me. You," she pointed at Heidi next, "smell of a former companion of mine, or so my shadow tells me. And you," She pointed at Tom, "just smell like food, but I warned my shadow not to harm you."

Hearing Nathan's comment, she nodded. "Indeed I did."

"So you, or at least your Flow, eat people. Now I am not okay with being followed, or perhaps hunted might be the correct term," Tom replied, still calm. "Now that could well be a threat, what you just said, and my two companions here don't respond well to threats."

"Ain't that the truth." Nathan said in response to Tom's comment his flow. "What do you say Heidi, you want to try your hand at her or shall I go first?"

"You missssunderstand us," a pair of glowing yellow eye appeared in the darkness, "we do not hunt, we kill." A pair of shadow serpents, easily distinguishable from the darkness despite being the same color, slithered and hovered next to Melaney.

"I am in complete control over them," Melaney monotoned, "they will not hurt you unless I say, and I have killed enough in this lifetime."

Elena's angry scream resonated throughout the village as she slammed open the door of her now deserted home. Why'd Erika have to just abandon her like that? She didn't mind living with what's his face, but just because Erika got married didn't mean she didn't have nightmares anymore. And Simon wasn't the best person to comfort you when it came to that.

Heidi blinked, not sure what to make of that. "Eh, sure, why not. I need to work on control anyway," she shrugged, her spear forming in her hand.

"Thanks," Kira smiled happily as a vine took the two if them to the ground. She walked over to a patch of dirt, kneeling next to it and starting to pull the weeds. Manual gardening was relaxing, even if she could do it more quickly with her Flow.

Nathan waved his hand and two darkness tendrils wrapped around the serpents and pinned them to the ground. He smirked and glanced at Mealeny. "Like you said, I stink of darkness. It's my tool. Anyone else who uses it is merely borrowing a fraction of its power."

"Have fun, Heidi."

The shadow serpents simply dissipated at the tendrils and moved back up, hissing.

"I do not wish to fight you, so any action I take is in self defense," Melaney stated, waving a hand by her side as more serpents formed.

"Tombo, remind me just to go for restraint. Dunno if I'll lose it or not," Heidi grinned, taking a defensive position.

"If she doesn't want to fight, why should we?" Tom pointed out, trying to be the voice of reason. Or what he thought was reason. "I just want to know, why are you following us?"

"I'd rather not be killed in my sleep tonight," Heidi pointed out.

After calming down a little Erika went to her old house. "I hope nobody's moved in yet..."

Elena curled up in the closet of her old room, screaming into a pillow.

"I'd rather not kill you," Melaney said, "I've wandered alone for three years. My bloodlust is gone."

"I sincerely doubt you could kill us." Nathan said with a shrug.

"Are you going to answer the fucking question, or what?" Tom asked, his patience running short.

Erika walked inside, heading for the closet. She leaned against the door and waited for Elena to stop screaming.

"Fine, I was following you because after a certain incident, I got separated from Paul three years ago and I've been alone ever since," Melaney muttered, her serpents squirming nervously.
