Re: Reaching Salvation: Post-Acer Part 2
"Tom..." Nathan began. "Can you tell me of what you remember from when Shima attacked the tower the second time?" He asked.

Re: Reaching Salvation: Post-Acer Part 2
Heidi remained silent for a moment, mentally deciding that she would beat the shit out of Eithne when they got back. "He's a loser, anyway," she stated. "It takes a special kind of stupid to blindly follow Nathan. People hurt each other nowadays, there's not a lot you can do. But, if you want, when you 'nd me get back to th' village, we'll go beat the livin' daylights out of him for being a traitorous, backstabbing asswipe, okay?" It didn't really matter whether or not Tom wanted to, she was going to take Eithne down for using the trigger.

Re: Reaching Salvation: Post-Acer Part 2
Tom closed his green eyes, having shut off his Flow momentarily. He was lost down memory lane.
"You-You attacked, towards the end of the tournament," he started, his narrative broken. "I was pretty much withdrawn towards the end. I still talked when I was spoken to, but mainly I just kept to my own thoughts. Didn't help anyone with the challenges. I could feel you killing them, the other contestants, even if I couldn't see. I was in a heightened state of awareness, you see, complete zen. I could feel the lives, all shining so bright, you would have loved it. Like a constellation."
Here he trailed off, before picking back up.
"I felt you and Eithne, ripping apart my competitors. It hurt, just to sense it. So I took you away, and to hold you there, I went to stop you. We fought, didn't we? I won, and I turned to Eithne. I could feel his Flow, full-force, like a constant output of energy. He was at full strength. I had used a lot of mine to beat you. I remember wondering, who would win? And I hoped, just for one second, that the fight would stop, and that we would all survive. But that was swept away by a sea of self-preservation. And then, that, in turn, was washed away by Shima. That last thing I heard until a month ago. It was a whisper, but it was all I could hear, that harsh whisper ringing through my brain."
"'Open your eyes, Tom.'"

"It was more that you were about to kill me than Eithne thinking you were standing against him." Nathan said with a sigh. "At least you can stop holding me completely guilty."

Re: Reaching Salvation: Post-Acer Part 2
"I lost five years of my life because of him. He promised me he'd take me down if Shima took over, not put him in charge and stand off for five years," Tom almost shouted.
"I've killed people now Nathan! One thing I'd promised not to do!" Memories were flooding through, and Tom's Flow was unmasked for a brief second, but it was enough. It was like a gravity, weighing people down. It was calming too, but not in a nice way. It simply promised peace and quiet in oblivion, nothing beyond but endless calm. It became obvious why Tom kept it under wraps.

"Calm down, Tombo," Heidi said, trying to keep her voice light. "Sure, you killed people. So have I. But you regret it, okay? You're a good person. And in the long run, what's five years of your life? You have everything ahead of you."

Re: Reaching Salvation: Post-Acer Part 2
"Doesn't matter how much I regret it," Tom replied bitterly, shutting off the stream of memories when it became too much. He wanted so badly to turn around, back to the village, and take revenge on Eithne. Were he not usually so self-controlled, he probably would have. "Doesn't bring them back. Five years was a long enough time, believe me, to spend locked in a dark cell in your own mind."
"And I wasn't about to kill you, Nathan," Tom spat at the black-haired man. "I don't kill people, not when I'm in control, and believe me, I was in control. Otherwise I couldn't have remembered it."

"Never said it would," Heidi stated, "but if you didn't regret it, there'd be some serious shit wrong with you. And so what, you spent five years inside your own head? I spent five years worrying about what the hell happened to you. You're out now, and what's in the past is in the past." She wished she had her pocket knife again. Why were there so many situations where she wanted to indulge in the nervous habit once she'd given it away?

"I was afraid you might think I'd gone and joined the enemy," Tom replied, scratching the back of his head. He was back in control again, stoic but more easygoing.

"I didn't know if Shima'd taken over, or if you'd been killed or what," Heidi sighed. "It was...it was Eithne I was worried about having joined the enemy."

Tom heard Shima think 'ouch' in the back of his mind, but Tom had always had a good poker face. He nodded.
"You guessed right."

Heidi laughed. "Wasn't much of a guess since I had quite a few ideas. I just wasn't sure which one was right, if any. You see how much of a jerk you are without even knowing it? You left me in the dark for five years, too!" she told him, mock accusation surfacing in her voice as she jokingly punched his arm.

"One of these days you're going to leave a bruise, you know," Tom replied, jokingly rubbing his arm.

"...I don't get it..." Heidi groaned, slumping over. "That doesn't even make any sense!"

"Shaddup, I c'n...god dammit. What can I do? Annoy people? I'm usually pretty damn good at that," Heidi frowned, musing on her good qualities.

"If Eithne weren't such an ass, I bet he could do just as well as I could," Heidi pointed out.

Tom remember with a small grumble of rage hat when Eithne had said he would pull the trigger, Tom had said 'you wouldn't'. He didn't really want to talk about Eithne any more.
"Maybe, but he is," he replied concisely.
